Following are excerpts of activities reported by the Greene County sheriff’s office:
Wednesday, April 30: At 8:14 am, the sheriff’s office investigating a reported theft in Grand Junction. At 11:43 am a deputy investigated a reported burglary and theft of copper wiring and fishing equipment from a farm residence in the 1700 block of D Ave in Scranton Township. At 1:30 pm a deputy was advised by a resident in the 300 block of County Road E-63 of a possible case of identity theft.

Monday, April 28: At 7:08 am a deputy spoke with a home owner in the 1100 block of Q Ave in Hardin Township about the theft of personal property from the residence. At 10:48 am a deputy investigated criminal mischief to a work trailer owned by Gutter Express of Jefferson. Damage to the trailer occurred while it was parked at a worksite in the 300 block of Highway 4 in Highland Township. At 11:13 am a deputy was dispatched to the Heartland Cooperative in Rippey for a reported collision between two semi tractor-trailers on the curve on County Road E-57 at 300th St southwest of Rippey. James Ray Smith of Jefferson was traveling southwest. Dale Alan Thompson of Rippey was traveling northeast. As they rounded the curve their vehicles sideswiped each other. The 2006 Peterbilt tractor-trailer Smith was driving is owned by Michael Edward Dennhardt of Rippey. Damage was estimated at $5,000. Damage to Thompson’s 1995 Kenworth tractor-trailer was estimated at $4,000. No injuries were reported and no citations were issued. At 7:03 pm a deputy investigated a burglary and theft of tools and copper wire from a residence in the 1000 block of X Ave in Junction Township. At 9:04 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 400 block of N. Main St in Grand Junction for the reported theft of a Garmin GPS unit from an unlocked vehicle. The theft is under investigation.
Sunday, April 27: At 10:08 am a deputy was dispatched to the 1900 block of R Ave in Franklin Township to investigated the reported disappearance of a cellular phone from a loaned vehicle.
Saturday, April 26: At 9:36 am while on routine patrol in the 1200 block of E. Main St in Grand Junction a deputy stopped and questioned a male and female about their trespassing on private property and the possible criminal mischief to the property in the past. During the questioning, the male fled from the deputy and a foot pursuit ensued. After a short chase the deputy subdued the subject. Anthony Charles Kennedy, 32, of Jefferson was arrested and transported to the LEC where he was charged with assault on a peace officer– serious misdemeanor.* JPD officers and the Iowa State Patrol also responded to the scene. At 9:49 am a deputy assisted the Iowa State Patrol with a subject who was resisting arrest on Highway 30 at County Road P-33 (S Ave) west of Grand Junction. At 2:19 pm a deputy and the Jefferson fire department were dispatched to the 1900 block of Q Ave in Franklin Township for a reported prairie grass fire. The fire was extinguished without incident. At 7:35 pm a deputy spoke with a resident in the 400 block of 15th St in Grand Junction about the violation of a no contact order pertaining to his receiving cellular phone calls and text messages from a female also involved in the protective order.
Friday, April 25: At 9:45 am a deputy investigated a trespassing complaint in the 300 block of Main St in Cooper. At 4:37 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 500 block of S. 11th St in Grand Junction for a reported domestic assault. After an investigation by the deputy, he subsequently arrested Richard Tuhn, 35, of Grand Junction for domestic abuse assault- class D felony.* At7:09 pm a deputy and the Jefferson fire department were dispatched to the 1200 block of Orchard Ave in Hardin Township for a grass fire that was caused by a live downed power line. A single power line was struck by a planter marker arm that an operator was attempting to unfold in the corner of the field near the electrical service lines. Midland Power Cooperative was called to repair the electrical line. At 11:42 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 2400 block of Sherwood Ave in Franklin Township for a reported burglary and theft of household items, guns and tools. The theft is under investigation.

Wednesday, April 23: At 6:23 am a deputy responded to a call of a dog running at large in the 1000 block of Cedar St in Scranton. The deputy captured the dog and transported it to the animal shelter in Jefferson.
Tuesday, April 22: At 3:49 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 1800 block of P Ave in Grant Township to investigate the report of a burglary and theft of copper piping and electrical wiring from the unoccupied residence. At 5:18 pm a deputy was advised by the owners of a farm building site in the 900 block of County Road E-57 (290th St) in Greenbrier Township of the theft of tractor tires and farm implement parts. The theft is under investigation. At 9:42 pm a deputy, the chief deputy and the sheriff all responded to the report of a suspicious vehicle in the 1800 block of 218th St in Hardin Township. The vehicle and driver were found on R Ave by the resident on 218th St after the truck had run out of gas. The owner of the farm building site then returned home and determined that his residence had been burglarized and reported the theft of personal property from a vehicle parked in his garage. The driver of the suspicious vehicle was reported to be on foot in a farm field and was tracked by the Greene County sheriff’s office K-9 unit Leo to another farm residence where all the out buildings were searched. It was determined the subject may have been picked up by an unknown accomplice. The theft is under investigation.
Monday, April 21: At 12:55 pm a deputy investigated the report of criminal mischief to a new alfalfa seeding on a farm in Section 14 of Washington Township just south of Rippey. It was determined that 4-wheel ATVs were damaging the seeding.
Sunday, April 20: At 11:53 am two deputies investigated the theft of scrap iron from private property in the 900 block of 222nd St in Jackson Township. At 4:20 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 900 block of Grant St in Scranton to investigated criminal mischief to the rear window of a vehicle that may have been shot with a rifle or shotgun slug while the owner was driving the vehicle southbound on County Road N-65 (D Ave) near 100th St in Cedar Township as he entered the county.
Saturday, April 19: At 12:04 am two deputies and the chief deputy checked the report of a possible under age party along the Raccoon River near Squirrel Hollow Park in Grant Township. All subjects were determined to be of legal age and were allowed to remain at the campsite. At 8:41 am a deputy was not able to find a reported dog running at large in the 300 block of N. 17th St in Grand Junction. At 9:12 am a deputy was dispatched to thee 400 block of 12th St in Grand Junction to try and locate another reported dog running at large. At 3:01 pm two deputies responded to the report of a suspicious person near a residence in the 1200 block of County Road E-57 (290th St) in Jackson Township. The entire property was searched and no one was found.
Friday, April 18: At 4:23 am a deputy and the Grand Junction fire and rescue squad were dispatched to a reported small fire close to the Union Pacific railroad right of way on County Road P-33 (S Ave). Several discarded railroad ties were burning and were extinguished without incident. At 2:19 pm a deputy investigated the report of trespassing on private property on 185th St near County Road N-58 (A Ave) in Kendrick Township.

Wednesday, April 16: At 1:09 am a deputy was dispatched to the 1700 block of Highway 4 south of Jefferson for a suspicious vehicle parked in a residential driveway. The deputy investigated and subsequently arrested Kenneth Dale Hostetler, 49 of Jefferson for operating while intoxicated (OWI)-first offense*. At 5:30 am a deputy as advised and will investigated the reported theft of a Nikon camera from a vehicle parked at Spring Lake on April 14. At 8:03 am a deputy was advised of a cow on the roadway in the 1200 block of County Road E-33 (190th St) in Bristol Township. The owner was contacted and placed it back into the lot. At 9:39 am a deputy was advised of cattle out on 310th St just east of Brentwood Ave in Willow Township. At 10:09 am a deputy was dispatched to Grand Junction to remove pornographic material that was posted on a street sign. At 10:38 am a deputy was dispatched to the 2300 block of County Road P-14 (J Ave) in Greenbrier Township for the report of criminal mischief to an overhead garage door. The deputy determined the shed door and a camper parked inside were struck by a bullet. The owner was not sure when the damage occurred. At 11:50 am Greene County secondary roads personnel advised the sheriff’s office of a construction road sign that had blown onto the roadway on Highway 30 and County Road P-14. The deputy removed the sign from the roadway and asked dispatchers to call the Road Safe sign company and inform it of the situation.
Tuesday, April 15: At 4:03 pm a deputy investigated a reported fight between two male juveniles that occurred near the school in Grand Junction.

Sunday, April 13: At 1:45 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 1000 block of E. Main St in Grand Junction to investigated the reported theft of a license plate from a vehicle. At 3:56 pm the chief deputy sheriff advised the law enforcement center of a snapped utility pole one-half mile west of Highway 4 on 150th St in Dawson Township; Alliant Energy was advised. At 6:54 pm a deputy assisted with traffic control on County Road E-63 and Brentwood Ave in Willow Township after a semi tractor-trailer dropped off the shoulder of the roadway and needed a towing service to assist with removal.
Saturday, April 12: At 2:02 pm a deputy assisted with traffic control on County Road E-26 near County Road P-33 in Hardin Township when a large piece of farm equipment broke an axle and lost a set of tires. At 4:01 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 2000 block of 100th St in Paton Township for a reported domestic assault. After an investigation the deputy arrested Justice Marie Charles, 19, for domestic abuse assault (serious misdemeanor).* She was held at the Greene County Law Enforcement Center.
Friday, April 11: At 7:57 am a deputy investigated criminal mischief and vandalism to the driver side windows of several power line installation trucks that were parked in the 2100 block of 240th St in Junction Township. At 9:28 am a deputy was dispatched to the 400 block of Howard St in Rippey for the report of a dog being aggressive to persons walking by or visiting the residence. At 11:41 am a deputy was advised of a dog running at large in the 500 block of S. 11 St in Grand Junction. The dog was photographed for future reference but was unable to be caught at the time. At 5:41 pm a deputy and the chief deputy were dispatched to a two vehicle accident that occurred at the intersection of Highways 30 and 25 north of Scranton. Luther Vacheslav Thompson, 22, of Boone was eastbound on Highway 30. Melinda Rae Humlicek, 32, of Carroll was traveling on Highway 25. She stopped as posted but proceeded into the intersection and was struck. Neither driver was injured. Humlicek was cited for failure to yield upon entering a through highway. Damage to her 2012 Toyota RAV 4 was estimated at $9,000. Damage to Thompson’s Chevrolet G3500 van was estimated at $5,000. At 2:53 pm the Greene county sheriff’s office and units from the Grand Junction, Jefferson, Ogden and Perry fire departments responded to a controlled burn that went out of control in the 2300 block of 260th St in Junction Township. Several old outbuildings were destroyed at the vacant farmstead. At 8:18 pm a deputy was advised of a possible anhydrous leak near the Boone-Greene county line. The deputy was unable to detect any distinct odor of ammonia and believes the sighting of a dust cloud was mistaken for an ammonia vapor cloud. At 8:41 pm a deputy was dispatched to Dana to check a reported grass fire that may have been endangering a building site. The owner of the property indicated that no other property was in danger and did not want assistance in extinguishing the fire. The deputy determined that the fire was safe to let burn. At 10:53 pm a deputy checked the report of a fire at a residence in Churdan. The fire was determined to be a controlled burn in a fire pit in the back yard of that residence.
Thursday, April 10: At 10:55 am a deputy helped with the removal of a vehicle from the ditch in the 1600 block of 140th St in Dawson Township. The driver said he swerved to avoid striking a deer. The driver was not injured and there was no damage to the vehicle. At 1:02 pm a deputy was asked to locate a did find a dog that had broken loose from its chain and had attacked another dog in the 400 block of 11th St in Grand Junction. The owners of the dog were identified and the deputy will speak with them. At 10:13 pm a deputy was advised of a downed electrical power line in the 1500 block of County Road P-46 in Junction Township.
Wednesday, April 9: At 1:12 pm a deputy was advised by a resident in the 1800 block of County Road P-26 (265th St) in Grant Township of a possible phone scam. At 1:36 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 700 block of E. Main St in Grand Junction for a reported complaint of harassment. At 3:06 pm a deputy was advised by a rural resident in the 700 block of County Road P-33 (S Ave) in Hardin Township that her bank debit card had been compromised. At 3:22 pm a deputy was dispatched to Lakeside Golf Course to investigate the reported theft of a golf cart windshield. At 5:25 pm a deputy was advised and is investigating the reported assault and verbal altercation between family members in the 300 block of County Road P-33 (R Ave) in Dawson Township.
Tuesday, April 8: At 5:40 am a deputy was dispatched to the 900 block of Maple St in Scranton for a reported burglary and theft of a GPS and XM radio receiver from an unlocked vehicle. At 6:31 am a deputy investigated the second reported burglary and theft of an iPod Nano from an unlocked vehicle in the 1000 block of Linn St in Scranton. At 5:16 pm a resident from the 2300 block of 260th St in Washington Township reported at the LEC a possible theft of personal property from the residence. At 8:06 pm two deputies responded to a reported domestic altercation in the 1100 block of S. 8th St in Grand Junction. A deputy did locate a male subject at a residence in the 500 block of N. 16th St and subsequently arrested Jasinto Guzman, 45, of Grand Junction for operating a motor vehicle while impaired-first offense.*
Monday, April 7: At 1:54 pm a deputy transported a stray dog found in the 700 block of V Ave in Junction Township to the animal shelter in Jefferson. At 4:35 pm a JPD officer assisted the sheriff’s office with investigating the report of someone finding drug paraphernalia that had previously been burned in Henderson Park.
Sunday, April 6: At 12:17 pm a deputy investigated a property line dispute and a possible harassment complaint in the 500 block of E. Main St in Grand Junction. At 1:45 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 700 block of E. Hager St in Grand Junction for a report of vandalism to two tires on a vehicle parked at the residence. At 2:45 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 2200 block of County Road E-63 (330th St) in Washington Township for the report of a theft of copper tubing and electrical wiring that were stripped from an uninhabited residence. At 10:27 pm a deputy was dispatched to Heartland Cooperative in Rippey for the report of a strong odor of anhydrous ammonia. A Heartland supervisor was contacted and found a loose valve on a tank. At 11:13 pm a deputy responded to a complaint of a barking dog in the 700 block of S. 11th St in Grand Junction.
Saturday, April 5: At 2 pm a deputy investigated the theft of personal property from a residence in the 500 block of Anyer St in Dana.
Friday, April 4: At 8:59 am a deputy advised a Grand Junction resident on how to proceed with a possible forgery investigation that originated in another county. At 2:21 pm a deputy assisted the Department of Human Services with a possible sex assault case and ongoing investigation. At 4:05 pm a deputy was dispatched to 7th and Kelly Streets in Grand Junction for the report of ATVs being ridden on the roadway. The deputy spoke with the owner and advised the alley is still considered city property and it is not legal to ride ATVs there. At 7:36 pm a deputy was advised of a gas drive off from the Sparky’s One Stop in Churdan. The reported black Ford Explorer was not located upon the deputy’s arrival. The deputy will view the store video for a better description and possible owner of the Explorer.

Wednesday, April 2: At 5:25 pm a deputy responded to a reported domestic altercation in the 100 block of Lovejoy St in Rippey and subsequently arrested James Allen Ward, 36, of rural Perry for domestic abuse assault- serious misdemeanor.*
Tuesday, April 1: At 12:44 pm the chief deputy investigated the unlawful sale of personal property by a Rippey resident. At 3:50 pm a deputy was advised of a dog running at large in Scranton. At 4:17 pm a deputy investigated criminal mischief and a possible burglary to a residence in the 2300 block of Highway 4 in Franklin Township.
*In all cases when a defendant has been charged this is merely an accusation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
